Irving Patrick Consulting has been commissioned by East Lindsey District Council (ELDC) to review and update the Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan for fourteen areas in East Lindsey.
The areas under review are: Binbrook, Burgh le Marsh, Hundleby, Louth, North Thoresby, Old Bolingbroke, Raithby, Revesby, South Willingham, Tattershall, Thimbleby, Woodhall Spa, Wragby, Manby.
Conservation Area Assessments for Horncastle, Spilsby, Alford and Wainfleet (carried out by Heritage Lincolnshire for ELDC) were released in December 2025, and can be found in draft here.
What is a Conservation Area?
A Conservation Area is a place with special architectural or historic interest, recognised for its distinctive character and sense of place. These areas are protected not only to preserve what is valued, but also to ensure that any changes enhance and respect their unique qualities.
Local councils carefully manage Conservation Areas so that new development and alterations are well-designed and contribute positively to the area. While this can mean additional permissions are sometimes needed, it aims to maintain attractive streets, protect historic features, and safeguard the setting of homes for the long term.
Living in a Conservation Area often brings wider benefits. The character of the neighbourhood is more likely to be retained, trees and green spaces receive additional protection, and there are greater opportunities for residents to have a say in planning decisions through public consultation.

June 2026 Update
Thank you to everyone who attended our recent drop-in sessions in Louth, Horncastle, Spilsby and Wragby and to all those who have shared their thoughts and insights so far. Your local knowledge and feedback are invaluable in helping us better understand the character of these conservation areas, as well as the issues, concerns and opportunities that exist within them.
Although the initial drop-in sessions have now taken place, there is still plenty of opportunity to get involved and share your views with us (contact details below). We are also in the process of organising additional drop-in sessions to provide more opportunities for people to participate. Details of venues and dates will be shared here as soon as they are confirmed.
In the meantime, we encourage residents, visitors, property owners and anyone with an interest in local heritage to continue sending us their comments and suggestions.
All information given to date has been recorded and will be passed on to East Lindsey District Council for consideration as part of the conservation area appraisal process.

Are my views important?
Absolutely. Your views help us understand how the conservation area and its heritage shape the local sense of place, including how people experience, value, and benefit from the environment. We’re particularly interested in what you feel is important about local buildings, spaces, and character areas; places that support wellbeing; the advantages and challenges of living or managing property here; pressures for change; areas that have improved or declined; and any mapping or boundary issues you’ve noticed.
How can I share my views?
You are welcome to provide feedback in whichever way suits you best:
Written comments (email is perfectly acceptable); a meeting in person; a telephone conversation; an online meeting via Microsoft Teams.
